Got this from my obedience training group, scanned it and thought it was worth sharing.
Having a terminally ill dog or just a very senior dog can make life stressful when it comes
to trying to get them to eat.
This article is a nice reminder of what all you can feed your dog to keep it going, and this
lady appears to have some good luck keeping a greyhound of hers alive when it was
terminally ill.

Thank you for sharing.

My "WHITE ANGEL" Schaudeh, soon will be 14.
She turned off on dog food months ago,
I cook twice a day for her and she also takes vitamins..
I cook chicken along with pot pies they have alot of
vegetables. She is doing very well, sometimes for more
bulk I add some cereaL She does not care for fish and
beef upsets her tummy. From time to time I also add
some egg noodles.......she eats better then I do. I may
go without something but I ALWAYS have chicken and
pot pie stuff. She also loves cheese and raw vegetables.

Whatever it takes.....that is what is happenin at my house.

We've done it for years. I fondly remember Toot. While I was recuping frm the car accident, Kari, Kathy, Frank, Heather, and everyone else involved in keeping me alive worked harder to keep Toot going as they didn't want her to pass on their watch. She lacked 2 weeks of being 16 years old. And she ate like a queen. We all remember Frank getting up in the middle of the night to cook a steak for olde Toot. Olde dogs are hard to let go and if a little cooking keeps them with us a little longer, so be it. She was worth every minute of it. Long live the memories of Toot.

Then there is the butter. Some of these kids come in here so thin it makes me hurt to touch them. I use about 32 pounds of butter a month around here. It gets some of them started to eat and it adds weight to others that just don't gain the weight. That's the main reason for a Sam's Club membership here.

Butter? Like sticks of butter or melted on their food?
I cooked chicken and rice, hamburger and rice, or fried eggs for Mariah.
At the time I was so sick with worry that I could barely eat.

Add: Thanks for the article!

In Memory of Mariah He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.  ~Unknown~

Arda uses just big pats o'butter right on top of the food. Georgie lived her last year on almost butter alone.

I cooked for Bud at the end too, and when he would refuse home cooking, off we'd go to McDonald's. He never did turn down McD's ice cream.

It matters to the one you save.

I think as long as we own dogs, we will by trying many of these recipes to keep them going, I know I have too. Grated raw beets worked good for my liver shunt dog, it helped sooth the liver and got him eating more, we resort to whatever it takes.
Thanks for sharing the article, good read.
