Hello, please join me in celebrating a dober-life.
Lucy came to us in 2004 and changed our world. We were just two people then, newly engaged and looking for a four-legged child to complete our new family unit. She made us more patient, more nurturing and also made us laugh constantly. We weathered many trials together and learned much from each other. We nursed her through pancreatitis, numerous lacerations/stitches/pulled out stitches, blown/surgically repaired cruciate ligaments, an emergency enterotomy, (to remove underpants from her duodenum), 26 months of every-12-hour insulin injections for diabetes, and a two year battle with Wobbler's. She saw us through the hurdles that accompanied life, always with a wiggly nub of a tail.
She was my psudo-patient during vet tech school, the first dog I ever drew blood on, and she taught me much about veterinary medicine... the hard way, through experience. I learned that a determined doberman can pull out stitches from the back of her rear leg with a no-chew, bitter-infused bandage over the wound, and then eat said bandage with an elizabethan collar on her head and a brand new nylon muzzle on her face. I learned that a puppy who was taught not to put her paws on tables/people/surfaces could still reach the kitties as they basked in the sun by tucking her legs underneath her abdomen and beaching herself like a whale.... and how could I correct her if she did not break the rule?!
More than anything, Lucy taught me about myself. And that my type-A perfectionist (aka anxious) personality effected more than just my world. I learned to be aware of my mood, my body language, and even my thoughts- for her sake if not for my own. I am a better owner, driver, vet tech and wife because of Lucy. I've been an 'owner' to cats, lizards, turtles, snakes and frogs, but had never been a 'mommy' before her. She gave me headaches, heartaches, laughter, joy and purpose like no other.
The hardest thing I've ever done was to hold her as we said goodbye, and be the one who let up on her vein so our vet could give her the last injection... the one that would take her from us. But we had a responsibility to her, to end her pain when it became unbearable. And I am proud and grateful to say that we walked together, as a family, until her last heartbeat.
Thank you for all you taught us, Lucy Mae.

I'm so sorry for your loss, but what a wonderful life she had. Thank you for giving her that. The only fault they have is that they leave us too soon. Always too soon. Run free Lucy...

It matters to the one you save.

A wonderful tribute to Lucy. She sounds like a handful ... of love.
In Memory of Mariah He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.  ~Unknown~

I am so so sorry, my heart breaks for you.
They take such a big piece of our heart right along
with them.

I believe they are ALWAYS with us....LOCKED IN OUR HEARTS...
