I see I've been lax on posting my reminders.  Missed all of 2013!  If anybody is interested, the Ann Arbor Dog Training Club, located on North Territorial Road, just east of US-23, holds the AKC Canine Good Citizen test four times a year.  In addition, we offer a run-through practice the week before the test.

I'd love to see some Dobermans there next time!  (Although the test is, of course, open to all breeds and all mixes, no registration papers required.)  So feel free to pass this information along to others who may be interested.

The practice is Monday, March 17th, at 7:00 p.m.  The actual test is Monday, March 24th, at 7:00 p.m.  The cost is $10 for each day.  You can come to just the practice, just the test, or both.  Pre-registration is NOT required.  Just show up!

For directions go to the club's website:  aadtc.org

For more information on the skills required for the test, go to the AKC website:  akc.org

(Sorry, I tried to paste direct links to the above sites and couldn't do it.  The AKC site is huge, so it may take a bit of hunting around to find the CGC info.)

Attention all good dogs of any breed or mix!  Bring your owner to the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) practice and/or test being given by the Ann Arbor Dog Training Club on June 2 (practice) and June 9 (test), both at 7:00 p.m.

Directions to the club can be found at their website, aadtc.org

Be sure to tell your humans that the test and the practice are $10 each.  What a great opportunity this is to show off how well-trained your humans are!!!  Tell them don't worry, it's not really hard at all.  Just having good manners and listening to a few very basic commands is all that's required.  :)

The Ann Arbor Dog Training Club is still offering the CGC test four times a year.  We also offer a practice session one week ahead of time.  The cost to attend each is only $10.  There is no limit to the number of times you can come to a practice and/or a test!  All dogs are welcome, registered or not.

The next practice will be Monday, June 8, 2015, at the club.  That's about two and a half weeks away, but I want to give everyone plenty of notice.  The test itself will be the following week, Monday, June 15, 2015, also at the club.  See my above posts for a link to the club's website for more information or directions.

I always love seeing Dobermans there!

I haven't bumped this thread in a while, but just wanted to let everyone know the Ann Arbor Dog Training Club's next CGC practice will be Monday, July 11th, at 7:00 p.m.  The actual test will be a week later, July 18th, at 7:00 p.m.  The cost for each is $10.  Dogs must be at least six months old to take the test.  All breeds and mixes are welcome.

The club is located at 1575 E. North Territorial Road, Whitmore Lake, MI.  That's just a couple miles east of US 23.  Pre-registration not necessary.  Just show up and have fun with your dog, and maybe get your CGC title!  Don't worry if you don't pass.  You can retake the test as many times as you want.  Our club puts it on four times a year.

The next CGC practice and test at the Ann Arbor Dog Training Club are scheduled for January 9th and 16th, respectively.  Price is still the same, $10 for each.  See above posts for location and more information.  I haven't seen a Doberman attending in a while but would love to!

The club does put on the practice and test four times a year.  Last year, we had them in January, March, July, and September.  (We try to work around other events scheduled at the club, as well as considering the holidays late in the year.)  So I'm guessing our next one will be sometime in March.  I'll do my best to remember to post it here.  You can always check the club's website at aadtc.org.  Upcoming events are listed there.

We had a pretty good turnout last night for the practice, and we did have a Doberman!  The actual test is next Monday.  It is not necessary that one attends the practice in order to attend the test.  You are always free to do one, the other, or both.

I'd have to use super glue to make Bedlam sit anywhere, even with a bowl of meat, for 1 minute let alone 3 minutes.

Arda, I think you might be confusing the Canine Good Citizen test with obedience competition.  It's true, in obedience competition, depending on the class, your dog will have to do a one-minute sit or a three-minute sit.  In addition, they will have to do a three-minute down or a five-minute down.

The CGC is not a competition at all, and there are no formal obedience exercises.  You either pass and you will get a certificate from AKC, or you get a "Needs Work," which means you can come back at any future test and try again.

One thing you will have to do in the CGC test is ask you dog to either sit or lie down (your choice), turn around and walk to the end of a 20-foot line, then simply return immediately to your dog.  We do want the dog to stay in one place while you walk away and return.  And there is one portion of the test where you will leave your dog on leash with a person they don't know while you go out of sight for three minutes.  The dog does not have to do anything special, can be in any position, can move around, as long as it's not trying to get away from the person holding it or putting up a big fuss over not being able to see its owner.

There are ten different exercises in the CGC test.  I wish I could post a link here, but the board won't let me.  But it's easy enough to Google "AKC CGC test" if anyone would like to see exactly what the requirements are.  And it's true, Arda, that neither bowls of meat nor superglue are allowed.  :D

Cheri;  She would not pass.  You have to meet her.  Chaos is the best in the world........Bedlam is the worst in the world.  Exact opposites.

Oh, I believe you, Arda!  Logan, who got his CGC when he was a year, year and a half old, would most likely not pass if I did it all over again now.  He's eight years old, and his attention span and ability to focus on me has diminished as his age has advanced.  He's interested in too many things around him, and I'm sure I would need superglue to keep his butt in one spot for a few minutes, too. He's my boy, though, and he's perfect in so many other ways, and I love him!

Bedlam is like no other............she can leap tall tables in a single jump;  stop Nickie in his tracks; out run the John Deere with the ease of a gazelle; and defluff a quilt with the ease of a Navy Seal.  If she isn't crated, she isn't safe.  So why is it that we love the darn things?

Just a reminder that the quarterly AKC Canine Good Citizen practice and test are coming up at the Ann Arbor Dog Training Club.  The practice is Monday, June 5, and the test is Monday, June 12.  Both are at 7 p.m., and each is $10.  You don't have to attend the practice to do the test.  The location of the club can be found at their website:  aadtc.org.  For some reason, the CGC test did not make it to the upcoming events list, and the calendar is temporarily unavailable, but I'm told the website is currently undergoing some improvements.
