Kelly,

This a totally different "adoptaplatoon" from the one that I went through so I wouldn't be able to vouch for this one. The other one is based in Colorado and my sister-in-law knows the guy so that's how I got hooked up with it. You'll notice that the website has a different ending than the one I posted. Just thought I would point that out so there wouldn't be any confusion.

Peanut, you barked at your Dad??

It's me, Peanut, don't you recognize me?

What in the world are you doing coming in the back door?  I don't know if I have ever seen you come in the back door.  I am usually with you.  How did you get to the store without me?  How did you get out of the house unnoticed?  What is going on here?????  Are we off our schedule?????    AAAAAAAAAaaaeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!??????

*oof*

I protest.

  Whadja bring me?

Look I found a 19 squeaker toy for 75% off!

Peanut's Ponderings:  *squeak*  is music to my ears, nineteen "squeaks" will be music to theirs.

I haven't gone through any of the sites I posted. I have plenty of Airmen right here. My childcare kids parents have gone at one time or another so we send things to them.

AdoptAPlatoon is an awesome group. I was involved with sending care packages when we first were in Bosnia (1999 and 2000) and have had over 2 dozen soldier "sons" and "daugthers". I still keep in touch with one soldier I "met" through a letter I sent to Bosnia addressed to "Any Service Person". They don't let us do that any more. :P but AdoptAPlatoon is a great way to go. You can be a penpal and send weekly cards/letters or adopt and also send care packages. I used to get the lg video priority mail boxes (all free from the USPS) and keep them under the 1 lb starting weight. You'd be surprised how much you can fit in the box and cost only a few $ for shipping... You can pick up the customs slips and fill them out beforehand. It may confuse the postal worker with Priority mail (U.S. mail only) and custom slip but yes, you can use them because they consider a APO/FPO a United States address.

If we, as Second Chance, wanted to adopt a platoon (usually about 20 guys) or help other soldiers, count me in and I can act as a collection point. I have several P.O. close for mailing... I miss not have any soldier "children"

This is from the AdoptAPlatoon website. It made me cry.

AdoptaPlatoon is a soldier-support grassroots effort that provides morale-lifting mail and care package support to more than 10,000 service members deployed overseas. "I never tire of reminding people that our soldiers do not deserve to be forgotten and that they need us," said H?gg, an 11th-grade English teacher from Rio Hondo, Texas, whose son just completed a four-year enlistment in the U.S. Army.

It was her son's deployment with the 4th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery Regiment to Camp Dobol, Bosnia, in 1998 that stirred her patriotic duty and motherly compassion. "My son would write or make quick calls and tell me about the nine soldiers in his platoon who stood for mail call every day, and every day nothing came," H?gg recalled. "These soldiers were 18-, 19- and 20-year-olds, like my son. He asked if I would send some cards and goodies to them, and not forget them during the holidays that were coming." H?gg responded to her son's request.

She is the "Arda" of the soldier world!!! She is an awesom lady. I had the priveldge of working with them in their early days when they were few and soldiers were many. The soldiers are still many but they have many more volunteers these days!!!
