I knew this day was coming, but it is still hard to say the words... my big sweet boy is running free.
He and I gave it our all, but yesterday his heart gave out. To the last moment, all he wanted was to be by my side.
Thank you Arda for introducing us. We had almost 5 happy years which I hope I made up for all those bad ones.
He was the favorite of many friends and family members who loved his gentle ways... and we will all miss him terribly.
I know he is running on four good legs with his siblings now! :innocent: Diane

Oh no! I'm so so sorry for your loss.
Such sad news.
As you said, he is running now.

Diane - I'm really sorry for your loss of Derek. The 5 years you shared were very special. May you have comfort in knowing that he had a great life with you and you did the very best you could for him by providing him a home with so much love.
The embedded collars in his neck when we got him and he goes back and extends the gentle paw to the human race. One heck of a dog.

It is never long enough. Never. But I truly thank you for giving him the life he never had before you came into his. You showed him that love is out there and it feels good. YOU gave him the only good life he had. I'm sorry he didn't have more time to soak up the good life. You did a great job.

I think everyone who met Derek loved him. I am so sorry for your loss. Like Arda said, we never have them long enough, but he knew he was loved to the end.

Those 5 years were a complete lifetime to Derek :innocent: . You gave him everything he needed Diane....a dignified life and end. Thank you for loving him.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. It's nice to know there are so many of us that feel so deeply about our "kids". I still have the messages all of you posted about his rescue from Detroit. They are in his scrapbook with all the before and after pictures and stories. I'm just glad I came at the right time to find him and make his life special. Sorry I can't make it to the reunion this year...will be out of town... Daphne & Izzy wanted to go see their Dobie pals! I'll watch for a work day... Diane :innocent:
