Razor has been diagnosed with anal polyps. He was refered to internal medicine to get a colonoscopy. Based on the findings he will then have to have surgery to remove them.
He doesn't seem to be in any discomfort but he's always been rather stoic anyway.

Has anyone ever encountered this problem? Is it normal for it to be a 2-step procedure? For humans they remove the polyps during the colonoscopy, but the doc said there is usually a different polyp structure between humans & dogs that keeps them from doing the removal with the scope. Regardless they will perform a biopsy to see if the polyps are cancerous.

I would prefer to only have razor put under once but if this is the only way, of course it will be done.
I appreciate any advice.

Aw, poor Razor. I have no experience with them, but we will be sending up prayers that there is NO cancer. Let us know how it goes.

I honestly don't know.  Never had it done on any of my kids.

Razor had surgery Friday to remove the polyps. We had planned to do the colonoscopy first but he was having problems going potty & had a prolapse every time. Every thing went well & he seems to be recovering. We have to wait 2weeks for biopsy results, so I'll keep everyone posted when we find out more. Until then, send goods thoughts to my razor-boy.

Just an update...razor's biopsy came back inconclusive. They are doing more tests to see if he has lymphoma. All his blood work was good & the ultrasound suggested no other organs were involved, but the biopsy results weren't clearly yeah or nay. Our vet that did the surgery said he wasn't used to these kinds of results so he couldn't say if we should be optimistic or not. So, we are on pins & needles for another 2 weeks till we get the results.
On the bright side, Razor is feeling better. Playing like a puppy with Strasse & loving the spring weather.
We'll let you know when we know more.

Thanks for keeping us informed.  I've never come across this before and really need to know.  Our prayers are with him and both of you.  Life is truly too short.

Sending positive, healing thoughts your way.  I hope you get good news and that Razor is going to be okay.  The waiting is just terrible, I know.

Lymphoma.
B-type high grade in the GI tract
We start chemo but that only buys us 1year max with him. It's better than the 6-8 weeks if we did nothing. My heart is broken.

I guess the girls (strasse & rowan) knew something was awry with razor. When they sniffed his rump they would get a weird look & move away uneasily. wish I spoke dog better so I understood faster what was going on.
Ultrasound showed more polyps, thickening of the colon & 1 lymph node is enlarged. Started IV chemo immediately. Once a week for 10 weeks then to maintenance drugs for another 10weeks.
I treasure every moment i have with my sweet love bug. Thank you arda for letting me share his life.

I'm so, so sorry. I pray Razor will be comfortable and happy for whatever time he has left. Don't let this steal the joy that he brings into your life. Try to enjoy every minute with him. It just totally sucks. I'm so sorry.

I know many may feel our choice stupid. But please know that we only care about his quality of life & if it ever suffers we will think of him first not our own desires to hold on to him.

I'm so sorry to hear that diagnosis.  I think you are making a loving, caring choice with the hope of giving him some more quality time with his family.  You know him best and you will know as the weeks go on how he is handling the treatment.  Some dogs get through it with little discomfort.  I hope that will be the case for Razor.  It's clear how much he is loved, and I wish you the best.
