Robert came out to meet some of the boys yesterday. He was especially interested in Niko. Poor Niko has had a rough road, and none of it was his fault. Through it all, he has remained a total sweetheart. His first adoption went terribly wrong and it took us almost a year with lawyers and police involved to get this boy back in our custody. We he came back, he had an odd growth on his toe. It turned out to be cancer. Our amazing vet did surgery and was able to remove it all, although it did cost Niko a toe.

Then he went to a new home and he was a bit too much for the gentleman to handle. So back he came again! Poor Niko really didn't know what went wrong, but he seemed happy enough to be back. Well third time's the charm right?

Robert has had a Dobe before and wanted another to share his home and life with. He came out and walked several of the boys, but he felt the best connection was with Niko. Niko climbed in Arda's lap, gave her some good-bye kisses, and then he strolled off down the drive with his new Dad. Robert sent  me a note this morning that his first night went great. :) Thank you so much for making the drive out to meet our kids and for giving Niko a home! We are so happy for this boy, he deserves it so much. We hope the two of you have years of joy together. :flower:

Here's an update his dad posted on Facebook.

First 24 + hours and first night for me at work and Niko in the crate! He is the best, he has done nothing wrong at all. He needs a little training but he respects house rules & I just see no problems other than not being good in the car (not bad, just wants to be in daddy's lap). It was a little emotional yesterday, but know that he will be well taken care of, and he is very happy!

AWESOME!!!  I had to run some errands while Robert was here and couldn't wait to get back to find out if the big boy nabbed himself a home, and sure enough.  Congrats on a great dog and companion.  Don't be a stranger with updates and pictures!!!

What in the world are you doing coming in the back door?  I don't know if I have ever seen you come in the back door.  I am usually with you.  How did you get to the store without me?  How did you get out of the house unnoticed?  What is going on here?????  Are we off our schedule?????    AAAAAAAAAaaaeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!??????

*oof*

I protest.

  Whadja bring me?

Look I found a 19 squeaker toy for 75% off!

An update from Robert.

It's been almost 2 weeks, so I thought an update would be good. Niko is being just the best dog anyone could ask for. He is great with going out when needing, not 1 accident. He went to the groomer on Thursday and they had to call me just to say he was an angel! They were very impressed that his disposition was so good. So tell Arda not to worry, he is doing very well and seems happy.

A plus to an all ready bad day.  This makes what I'm going through with Ella and Molly all worth it.

I'm ecstatic to see how well Niko has adapted to his new forever home.  Robert, I cannot tell you how lucky you are to have such a WONDERFUL dog.  My wife and I would have done anything within our power to keep him but he's jealous of other dogs attention and we already have 2 Dobermans.  We had to take custody of Niko from my wife's cousin because he was abandoned at his former home because the previous owner (my wife's cousin) couldn't stay out jail and his girlfriend just left him.  We felt SOOOO sorry for him because when we'd stop by to ensure his needs were taken care of he greeted us with nothing but joy and happiness.  When it became clear he was going to be left alone we had no choice but to take custody of him and bring him to our home.  Unfortunately he became jealous of my older Dobe who was walking very close to me and Niko attacked him and ripped a 10" gash across the back of his neck, it was a pretty viscous 10 second attack but we knew at that moment he had to be in a single dog home and we were heartbroken.  Not just because of the attack but because we knew we were losing such a wonderful dog that we were determined to keep, but that wasn't possible with out other Dobes in the home.  When we dropped him off to Arda we left with tears in our eyes but it had to be done.

My Dobermans simply love me and are Velcro dogs in every respect but Niko was different, he was a Velcro dog and then some.

I'd LOVE to see more photos and updates on how he's progressing.

D. Lambouris
