Oh Kim she is really a pretty girl. I'm glad you have taken her in. May your older happier memories come forward and new times with your new girl bring lots of happy times. What is her name?

Thank you. She is a good distraction and has all the attention we previously gave three dogs. Very spoiled :) Her previous owners named her "Kaia". We were going to change it to something else, but it seems to fit her.

Thank you Lori, we appreciate it. Kaia is a wonderful dog, probably the easiest one I have had yet! With that though, it is still a little on the lonely side with only one dog!! After having three, I still feel there is something missing. And I feel bad she doesn't have a playmate. I've never had such a well behaved puppy, she has not chewed any of our stuff, doesn't get in the trash, etc! Part of me wants to get her a playmate but I have the fear of ending up with another dog with food aggression and I just can't do that again. I know that some of that is normal or pretty common in dogs. I just think we had some pretty bad cases the last time around and two of the dogs came from shelters in which did not temperament test. I've learned my lesson there. My husband and I had paid for a dog trainer to come up from Detroit and work with our dogs last year and we tried really hard to make it work but i learned the hard way that i made mistakes. So we will see about the second dog. I don't like the idea of the dog park and have toyed with the idea of doggie day care to keep her socialized but even that makes me nervous!! :(

We are so happy that you have a new dog that is wonderful. It will take you time to heal from

what had happened to you.We all understand your fear after what happened that will stay with you for

a long time.

Hopefully a day will come that you will bring another furkid into your home and hear the pitter patter of their paws running and playing through your home.

We all learn through our mistakes that aren't always the best way to learn, but we do learn from what ever happens.

Just as Arda said dogs should always be feed in separate places or in a crate so that it keeps your dogs safe at all times.

You never know what could set a dog off.If anyone knows, it would be Arda, look at how many she has and needs to keep them all safe. She does it day after day.

Hopefully your new Kaia will let you know when your ready for another friend to join the family.

My thoughts are with you, that you will get past this and be a happy family again soon. :Rose:

Separate feeding areas is the best way . Learned that at Ardas. I always have 4 or more dogs at my house, all rescue and all would pass a temperament test easily. 3 of the 4 I have have food aggression. They eat their meals all in separate areas,
I feel that a temperament test will only show you if a dog has issues with food aggression towards people and even that is manageable if you use a crate.
Until we can see things from the pack view of a dog I think it's always best to respect their space, be observant, and be in charge as a good pack leader would be.

Kim, don't feel guilty for not having a playmate for her!!! Love her and enjoy time spent with her and let her grow up... Don't rush into a decision...  You will find ways to socialize her that you are happy with...  every one though has pros and cons...  doggie day care... dog park... even play with a neighbor dog...  so try to make her your primary focus when you are out somewhere with her...

and you will all be happy!!!
