I'm glad Thor got to enjoy life during his last days.
His story is so sad that I could hardly bear to read it.

There was a Dobe backyard breeder up there and when they were through breeding them, they turned them into the woods to fend for themselves. They knew who she was and they did nothing about her. I was in Houghton Lake, and saw an ad on the pet store wall about Blue, white, red, and rust dobermans for sale. I had my Mariah with me at the time. I asked the pet store people about the ad, and they mentioned the woman had a motel, and made unfavorable comments about her.
I had never seen a blue, or white doberman at that time, so I thought what the heck, I'll give her a call. She was very rude, and said she wouldn't show the dogs unless I wanted to buy one. I told her I may want to buy one (truth) but I had to see them first. She was very suspicious, and wouldn't tell me where she was located. I bet it was the same "lady".

It is illegal to own a big cat unless you had it before the law was passed in 2000. Here is the web address for the actual law: http://www.animallaw...smi287_1101.htm Here is the summary of the law.
Summary: This Michigan law bans acquisition and possession of large carnivores (big cats and bears), though it “grandfathered” animals already owned as pets at the time of the law's enactment. In order to maintain public safety and animal welfare, the state created a strict permit system for those owners who were allowed to keep their already-existing pets. The statute also outlines minimal care requirements, transportation guidelines, and procedures for when a large carnivore suspected of carrying rabies bites a human or livestock.
I would complain to the DNR if anyone. I know where I grew up, in Northern MI, the DNR is very touchy about people having illegal animals. Don't know how concerned they are down by you though.

Four dog; I'm sorry but I have to use this thread again. And I want everyone in the world to read about Thor, so this is my way of keeping it up here.

I just got some good news and I am busting at the seams to share it with you.

SHALIMAR KENNELS in ONSTED, MICH - AKC has revolked all her prevlidges. No AKC registration for any of her dogs. Fines and no priviledges. This is the kennel I have been trying to get the Sheriffs office to look at and check out. Lenawee County issued 4 kennel licenses this year for her. So she passed L
enawee County's inspection and flunked AKC. Down with Lornish and down with Shalimar. Don't breed if you can't handle the heat. And don't mess with my Dobermanns. Makes you wonder....Lenawee would not have given us our licenses for feeding, vetting, and saving the lives of these dogs but they would give her a license to breed bad stock, sell them, and not take them back when the owners could not handle them. If the county had checked with anyone of several vets, they would have known the simple facts that we knew. And yes, as of today, they have never asked any of our vets what we were doing. We check our adopters more thoroughly than they give out permit and licenses.
To all those Shalimar Dobes that have come in here over the last few years, I'm sorry we couldn't get it done sooner to save you the turmoil and in most cases your lives. There is just no place in society for bad tempered anything.

Shaylee is a Shalimar, isn't she? I think that you did pretty well for her! You found her a highly devoted servant, and even a peasant or two to boss around!

But what about all the rest that had a screw loose. The word out there from small dog adopters is that the place is bad. I have never gone cus I know my limitations. Now off to Livonia cause Bovier Rescue is saving our bottoms with dog food.

I just meant that you saved what you could, within the limitations you had. And I am sure that Jane and Shaylee are grateful (most days *snicker*, screw loose and all *double snicker*) even if Tiki isn't!

I sent Chris of Thor's warriers an update when Musky was adopted.
The following is my email and his answer.....

Chris,
I felt your pain when Thor passed, but I am so happy he had those last several months of love.
I sent you an email about the Muskegon Dobes six months or so ago.
This was Musky as he arrived at Second Chance Dobes rescue.

After a lot of tender loving care he was adopted on Jan 6, 2008.

THANK YOU FOR THE UPDATE! It broke my heart to see those dogs in that condition. It's obvious they're getting the love, attention, food and shelter they need. Thanks so much for passing along the current picture.
