first vaccination is for one year. Next is for 3 years. Or a titters to check and see if they need another.

I follow a minimal vaccine protocol as suggested by Dr. Ronald Schultz, Dr. Jean Dodds, and many others, based on scientific research. I would do a puppy series of core vaccinations, a rabies at about four months of age, a booster of all of those at about one year (but rabies done separately by a few weeks). I may or may not do a booster three years after that, but then it would only be titers about once every three years. Titers will tell you if your dog is protected or not. It is a simple blood draw that is sent to a lab like IDEXX or MSU or Hemopet. I've been doing this for quite a few years, and when I first asked, my vet knew nothing about it, but she worked with me and we figured it out. Rabies is the only exception. I continue to do a three-year rabies, only because state law requires it. There are other non-core vaccines that one may want to consider, depending on your circumstances (like lepto, Lyme, bordetella).
I'm not giving advice, just saying what I do, since the question came up. If you don't mind doing a little searching on the Internet, there is lots of information out there. You could Google something like "canine vaccination guidelines."
