I think my dog's weight looks good, except for Ruby who is the official floor cleaner around here. She picks up after those babies very nicely . I guess I just can't imagine 6 cups of food a day for a puppy. That seems like so much.

Would she do better if she was crated at meal time, without the distraction of the toy factory? Then her only focus would be the food. Just a thought!

We just switched her off of Eukanuba to Blue Buffalo and upped her to 4 cups 2 times a day (2 cups per feeding) as per bag recommendations. Were already starting to see her filling out a little more than before but I cant imagine what would happen if we fed her that much.
Probably poop city.

Do you mean they are each getting 9 cups of food three times a day, or is that a total for all three puppies? They are growing puppies. I have three here and they are being fed 9 cups 3 X daily. They are growing by inches and pounds. 2 over 20 lbs and Chaois at about 17 or 18 pounds.

How much a dog gets would depend on its activity and metabolism and has to be individualized. Just like some people have faster or slower metabolism, so do dogs. My two adult, 85 pound dogs are not terribly active and maintain that weight on 4 cups of adult dry dog food a day -- they also get more table leavings every day than they probably should, too.

Babies and puppies have to be watched very carefully for all kinds of things. Bubbles - it was rickets.
Now you know about Vit. D, so no more rickets!!

He was about 10 weeks old and was walking on his pasterns instead of his feet. It was a sight. But we did get him on his feet. He's as good as we could get him. And I might add, he's as dumb as a pile of rocks but everyone loves the big fool and he is as gentle as he is big. An obedience animal he will never be. That's my boy!
