Darcy was perfectly fine yesterday. This morning she ate her breakfast like usual. A little while later we were hanging out in the living room. John was petting all 3 dogs, and thought Darcy had something in her mouth. Upon closer investigation, we discovered this huge lump on her lower lip.

We took her to the Vet's office. The Vet thought it might be an abscess, as it wasn't presenting like an allergic reaction. He gave her a combination shot of antibiotic and steroid, plus 14 days worth of antibiotics. (Merry Christmas to her!). He said if there isn't any improvement by Monday to bring her back in. It does look like it isn't as swollen as it was this morning....so we are hoping the antibiotics are working. We were just wondering if anybody else has seen anything like this before?

Wow, poor Darcy, glad she had a vet visit and is on some meds, poor girl. The time Nixx got bit by the spider her face was very swollen, but much different than Darcy. I was thinking a tooth too. Hope she is much better soon.

I'm gonna bet on an abcess tooth. Maybe fluid from the infection? I hope she's OK over the holiday, but if she's eating, she's probably feeling fine  Ruby used to get abcess teeth and the vet said it could be from anything....even poor breeding. I hope she's doing OK.

The swelling on Darcy's lip went down by about half overnight. So the meds must be doing their job.

Our Vet didn't think the swelling looked right to be an allergic reaction, that is why he prescribed an antibiotic along with the steroid injection. If it was an allergic reaction, Darcy would have needed something different than benadryl.....it makes her waaaay to hyper.

So glad it is healing up, it sure looked ugly. Do they think they will have to remove the tooth?

It matters to the one you save.

Ok this is really weird...the swelling on the right side has went down and looks almost normal, now the left side is starting to swell. I called the Vet's office, she has an appointment for tomorrow morning. I'll let you know what we find out.

I sure hope everything turns out alright. Was that a new kind of bone you gave them on Christmas maybe there was something
in the cookie she has a reaction to. Just a thought I'm sure you already thought of that. Poor Darcy Hope she's okay.
Paws crossed everything will be alright.
