Belle's in the hospital right now fighting for her life due to complications from a previous bowel obstruction surgery (she's had three so far, the most recent was this past Saturday). One of her intestinal incisions opened up and has leaked into her abdomen causing a severe case of secondary Peritonitis. When my vet opened her up last night, her entire abdomen was filled with pus. He also found a surgical sponge still inside from a previous surgery (which was done by an emergency vet as I had to take her in after hours). :pinch: She lost 16 inches of intestine due to infection. He's got her open still so her abdomen can drain and so he can flush things out periodically. Her vital signs after surgery last night were stronger than before she went into surgery, and she's bright eyed this morning, although heavily sedated. She's doing as best as she can at this point considering what she's been through, but she still isn't out of the woods.

It amazes me how fast the infection set in. She was fine the day we brought her home and even ate her dinner with a ravenous appetite (typical for her!). By six AM the next morning, I was on the phone with the vet as she was very depressed and wouldn't eat--something was definitely not right with her. She had been sedated when we brought her home as she was so active, the attending vet didn't want her to injure herself. She slept most of the evening and night. By morning, she was still acting very disoriented, which I though was unusual, and wouldn't eat, so I called the vet...better safe than sorry.

Please say lots of prayers and send good vibes her way. She's going to need them over the next week. :innocent:

So very sorry Mandy, our hearts go out to you and to Belle...
Try to hold onto this:
"Cast all your fears upon Him, becasue He cares for you" 1st Peter 5:7
We'll be praying for Belle and for you in these hours ahead...keep hoping, keep believing, and no matter what always know there will be good come from even what we do not understand.

Mandy, Belle is in our thoughts and prayers. Thank God her Mom was so in tune to her baby. Please, keep us posted. Mary

Oh Mandy I so sorry; the one thing I learned after being married to a Veterinarian is the simply amazing healing capabilities of dogs. Will keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers. By the way, I just hate those emergency clinics; have never had a good experience with them. Best wishes. Vicki, Gracie & Blue
