I have been researching obedience schools for Lilo and a refresher for Magnum. The 2 that I have come up with are - Michael Burkey in Westland....I think my husband may do well with him since he is a former K-9 officer and trainer but not sure about Lilo. He runs 4 week classes for @ $120.00 and he also does home classes. The other option I had looked at is in Belleville - Laura Rescoe. She runs a 6 week program for 125.00 for Positive Way Dog Training. Both classes would be starting in January. Any thoughts on who is the better trainer?

I have learned that it pays to ask the instructor if you can sit in on a class to observe before you sign up. That way you can decide if you like the instructor and their methods. If you are looking for basic obedience (close to home) for Lilo (sit, stay, down, heel and leave it), AAA is pretty good. The instructor has a Dobe that she uses as a demo in class. I think I paid $80 for 6 weeks.
The embedded collars in his neck when we got him and he goes back and extends the gentle paw to the human race. One heck of a dog.

I agree with Cheryl, every trainer is different.
Some have different methods that work for some
dogs & not others. I would sit in a class or 2 & ask
questions of the trainer after & tell them what you
want to train the dog for. Dobes are so smart they
can out smart some trainers unless they have had
experience with them.. Who ever you choose, just
make it a good positive experience for the dog & you...

Thank-you! I know that Lilo has issues with men. She loves my husband and craves his attention but he cannot discipline her w/o a wee-wee accident. I am thinking that putting her with a female trainer and letting my husband do the classes with her may be the best choice. For now I am looking for some basics and really just need her to focus and not be afraid of my husband. Socialization is the other thing. She knows the basic commands such as sit, down, leave it, heel etc. and as said before walks on lead very well. Magnum needs a refresher on lead as he likes to pull the first couple of minutes we are on a walk. They are way to smart!

I know a lot of people in the greyhound group I'm with also like Michael Burkey...

I also have a friend that comes to your home to do training. Her name is Maggie Ouillette and her website is Serendipity Dog Training. She uses only positive methods for training and is WONDERFUL with the dogs... She is my Troopmaster from Dog Scouts!!! and Bella and Skitter love "Aunt Maggie" and she has helped me with Bella and her dog reactivity so she has worked with Dobes before. Even the cats love her better. LOL

Thanks - I will have to check Maggie's website. Coming to the home may be best with our crazy work/sports schedules.
