These bones from Hollywood Mkt. were pretty big; boiling them gets a lot of the grease out and then I made them chew them on throw rugs. If any dog was to get sick from them, it would be mine and they did not. They're still chewing on them.

Natural bones aren't going to work for Sky. We gave her leftover boiled hambone from dinner which she loved. Couple of days later, she was having problems with her bowels and there was blood and bits of bone in her stool. I've never had a dog that couldn't tolerate bones but I guess we're sticking to rawhides with her.

On another note, Sky is settling in. We missed our play date with Lorraine and her posse because of the snow Sunday but we'll try to reschedule. She still paces a little but doesn't whine hardly at all. She still won't go upstairs or downstairs yet but we'll work on that over X-mas break. Her appetite has dropped a little so we're having trouble getting weight on her without getting her hooked to table food. She doesn't seem to like Iams brand food so we've had to mix in gravy to get her to eat at least 4 cups/day.

The visit with my sister's lab didn't go well (she was great but the lab wasn't) but the Feist was fine so she'll have at least one in her new pack. She's such a little lady...she crosses her front paws when she's laying, doesn't dribble after drinking her water and always waits until the cats are finished eating before she cleans up the remaining cat treats. We do have pics but I've been lazy at downloading them to post. Thanks to everyone for the tips!

I think it was because it's a ham bone; they are not good for dogs. My lab could eat anything and any kind of ham or ham bone made him really sick.

Sky is settled in now. It's almost like she's always been here. She caught her first squirrel today - it didn't make it. Shocked the heck out of us since we didn't know dobes were squirrel dogs. Man, she is fast..even in 12 inches of snow.

We tried again with the lab, Abby, and now they run and play. Abby is quite jealous so there are little squabbles but Sky takes it all in stride if it means a little more running and playing. She wears Abby out which is usually followed by a good nap. She isn't too crazy about the weather though. She doesn't have enough fur to keep her warm!

She is very curious about everything and all items must be inspected. Her nose shows up in the most interesting places and is usually cold and wet- we call it the whohaw hello. She's also getting better at stairs but not quite graceful yet. She loves riding in the car and growling at dogs and people walking down the street. That might not sound like much but when she first got her, she did nothing but sleep and now there is all this personality. This is her house, her yard, her family and her street!!!

She's a great dog. Thanks for finding her for us.

Sky is georgeous ! I loved the pictures !
I love dobes at that age.
I had to grin when I read about the wet, cold nose.
I know the feeling. :(

Glad to hear that Sky is doing so well, and has found a friend in Abby afterall! A lot of the Dobes are squirrel dogs, and any other little critter that gets their attention! (Dude has a fascination with gophers). And we can really relate to the 'whohaw'
hello!! Thanks for giving her such a good home, and for keeping us updated on her progress. Have a Happy New Year!

Big news! We adopted Sky (formerly Karma) because our dog had run from the sitter while we were on vacation and had been missing since last September. We assumed he was gone. Well he showed up (via the Dog Pound) about a week and a half ago. We still can't believe it. He's been gone six months and two days, had lost 13 pounds and has a chipped tooth. Other than that, he's healthy (and very hungry).

Sky is absolutely thrilled to have a potential play/litter mate. She spends all of her time coaxing him to play with her and he does a little more as time goes along. I always thought she was a little lonely since she's been surrounded by other dogs her whole life so when she lays next to Max's crate when he's in there, I know it was true. Max isn't so thrilled to have another dog in his house and spends his time trying to get his share of any attention that is given.

Sky has packed on 6 whopping pounds and tips the scale at 58 (we call her "little girl"). She's not a big eater and lets her food sit there a while and age before she eats it (unless its chicken, steak or turkey!). She's such a sweetheart and daddy's girl. She and Max have one big thing in common and that is chasing squirrels. They sit side by side at the back door and scan the yard. We took them to Flushing park this past weekend and they were two very happy-well bahaved dogs. I think that two dogs along with our two cats now qualify us as "herd" status?

We have another big trip this summer and had planned to take Sky with us but now we're freaking out a little because we can't take both dogs. Last time we went on a trip, our dog ran off. All suggestions are welcome.

I'll try to get some new pics posted soon.

What in the world are you doing coming in the back door?  I don't know if I have ever seen you come in the back door.  I am usually with you.  How did you get to the store without me?  How did you get out of the house unnoticed?  What is going on here?????  Are we off our schedule?????    AAAAAAAAAaaaeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!??????
