Last night when Joaquin and I got home Alley had passed away in her sleep. She went peacefully, she was still laying on her blanket, exactly how she always slept. We adopted her in 2007 when she was about 3, so she was somewhere around 10 years old. She was never sick, she was still running around the yard earlier that day and wrestling with Stone.
She was a grand dog. She was amazing. She was so smart. She could sit and think about something, like how to open the garbage or how to escape a pen, and then she would do it. She was so athletic, she could climb out of a 6 foot fence, she cleared 2+ foot "walls" in agility class, she ran across the cat walk like she was a cat. She was fast as lightning. She once caught a rabbit in the yard, yet she accepted Polly when I brought her home as a tiny kitten. She was so protective of me and the yard. She was the leader of our gang of mutts.
She was my best friend. My partner. My love. My protector. My joy. My girl. I'll miss her so much, and I'm so very grateful that she was mine.
Be nice to your brother Alley, there's no fighting allowed in heaven. I'll see you soon baby girl. Run free Alley....
