A kind lady from Midland Humane notified us that there was a female dobe in need at Detroit Animal Care and Control. When Arda talked to the vet at DACC they told her is was a male and that he was slated to be euthanized Saturday (1/5/19) and that they would hold him for us till Saturday. So Arda and I made the trip down there...(That was scary...the traffic and the drivers flying by doing 75 mph in a 55 mph). DACC is so full of dogs that they have no room and from what I understand is that he was there the beginning of January, so they only held him 5 days. Well this poor boy is a mess and seems to be in pain. He will be going to the vet asap. He is just happy to be on a soft bed and getting 3 meals a day. He seems like a very sweet boy.

Just heartbreaking, HEARTBREAKING. Dobes are such a sensitive breed too.

I am sure it was VERY SCARY driving there and back. You were being watched over.

All I can say is "GOD BLESS YOU and ARDA. There is a "special place for people like you" GOD BLESS YOU FOREVER.

GOD BLESS ALL the dogs in shelters and "everywhere" that cannot be saved. Peace and love to them.

Poor boy.  I'm so grateful that you were able to save him.  Has he been to the vet yet?  Please keep us posted.  (Some of us don't do Facebook so don't see the updates posted there.)

Hi Cheri,

Arda said he goes to the vet tomorrow (friday) as soon as I hear anything I will post an update.

Arda said he has been resting a lot...and sleeping...he is very quiet and cooperative. She named him ''Chance''. So far he has been a super sweet and well behaved boy.

Poor boy! Praying things go okay for him tomorrow. Maybe partly why he is sleeping so much is he feels safe. Soft bed, good food, warm and he has finally found true caring.

"Chance" is a good name.

GOD BLESS

Oh dear, this reminds me of Derek. I pray he will improve with good care. I have been wanting to get another boy in the near future. Perhaps I could come see him when he is ready.

Chance went to the vet this morning, the vet is guessing him to be about 5 or 6 years old. He weighed in at 86 lbs, but he is still a little on the thin side. His blood work came back good and he is heart worm negative!!! (he was tested at the pound for heart worm also, but we like to double check) He has 4 enlarged mammary glands, he goes in on the 22nd to have them removed and to get neutured. His hygroma on his elbow is also going down and the vet is not concerned about it and will look at it again on the 22nd.  Having him on soft bedding has helped his hygroma and his aching joints.  Some one had to of spent some time with this boy he is very treat motivated and knows sit and down.

Well sounds better then what I was imagining. Thank God he is heart worm negative. I bet he is so happy to have a nice soft bed and more treats.

Thank you Jackie for letting us know how "Chance" did at the vet.

GOD BLESS
Nancy

Thanks for letting us know Jackie. Glad he was heart worm negative.

Giving Chance the time to rest will help. So happy you rescued him from there.

Thanks for the update.  Thank goodness nothing major showed up on the vet exam and tests.  I'm so glad he's been rescued.  This boy deserves a good life from here on out.

Chance went into the vet yesterday and got 4 mammary glands removed and neutered. The vet checked his teeth while he was under and she said that they are pretty worn down, she is now guessing his age to be at least 7. He is on the road for recovery and hopefully will be ready for adoption soon. Will let you know when he is ready. He is a real sweetheart. Real quiet, easy going boy, had given up on life but is coming around knowing that someone cares about him and shows him love everyday.....can't wait to give him a bath when it warms up a little. He probably has never had one.

Well Chance has found his voice....lol....he used to be so quiet....but now he has a lot to say....and we LOVE it....it feels so good knowing that he is feeling more comfortable in his surroundings and that he is actually feeling better. He is now sitting up in his crate, where before he would just lay in it and sleep. He is wearing a e-collar, the blow up kind so his stitches can heal where he had is mammary glands removed. He is getting is very own personality and we love it. He is a cutie.

I am falling in love with this boy. He is pure love. He came running up to me today and started jumping up and was excited to see me. He has come so far from when he first came in, he would hang his head down, not look at you and sleep all day and night in his crate. Hopefully in a few weeks he may be ready to go to a new home. He still has pressure sores on his behind and he still needs a bath. But someone is going to be so lucky to bring this boy home. He is pure love.

I'm another one who still prefers the format of a discussion forum like this.  I don't care for FB or any of the so-called social media sites.  If that makes me old-fashioned or downright ancient, so be it!  Yes, thanks, Jackie, for the updates on Chance.  How wonderful that he has turned out to be such a nice boy.
