My family and I went out to Arda's on Sunday and after spending time with some of the dogs, we decided to adopt Maverick. Unfortunately, we have a two year old son who has severe food allergies and we were unaware of some of the other allergies that he has/may have. After brining Maverick home, every time our son got near him or Maverick's saliva got on him, his face would swell up and he would get patches of hives on his skin. This was very unfortunate to us as Maverick was an extremely good dog in the home. Since our son was having these allergic reactions to Maverick, we had to return him to Arda's place and our entire family, especially the kids, were heartbroken about having to do this. :)

Maverick has an extremely good tempermant, and was very good with all of my kids, we have a 1 year old, a 2 year old and an 11 year old. Maverick is extremely mild mannered and is already housebroken. Maverick would make an excellent dog for any type of family situation and would even make an excellent companion for an elderly person due to his mild tempermant. In the day that we had him, I conducted some basic obedience training with him and he responded to this exceptionally well.

It is now my hope that anyone reading this website that is going out to adopt a dog gives Maverick some serious consideration for adoption. He was in my home for only one day but in that time, I was able to discover that Maverick would make an excellent house dog for anyone. Any questions about Maverick can be directed to me and I would appreciate any updates on Maverick. Maverick is a great dog and is deserving of a great home. We would have been proud to keep him but we had to consider our toddler's health before anything else.

Whoever decides to adopt Maverick will definitely be pleased with their choice to adopt this fine dog. Hopefully our son can outgrow some of his allergies in a few years and we can go back out to Arda's place and adopt another dog that is in need of a home.

God bless Maverick and hopes for him to find a great new home.

I have suffered severe allergies my entire lifetime, and it's horrible. Although, I have found that I have reactions to SOME things (including Dog Saliva) but yet not to others (other dogs saliva).
It was good of you to put up this post, and most people would understad that a mother puts her child first and foremost, including myself. Hopefully, like you said, your son will outgrow his allergies, and dogs will be in your future!! Just "test" him out on some here and there, and you may be surprised that he won't be allergic to all, just some...just expressing experience from being a "chronic" year round allergy sufferer, to everything AND anything, including dogs and cats...I have both... :)
Good luck to you in the future!! :D

I just wanted to add how great I think it is that you posted this about Maverick. It will surely help when another family is looking to adopt. My Harley was adopted at Arda's and then returned also - and was heartbroken. That family didn't give any reason for the return... (I'm assuming it was b/c he is full of energy and they weren't ready for that) But then I came along and now he's home furever! :) Thank you for helping SCD help him get placed in the right home (from what you say he should be good anywhere!). :D Mav!!!

A BIG THANK YOU for your post. I was out at Arda's and SB Max had just come out there. What a terrific temperment he has. I was really happy to hear that you had adopted him, and felt bad when your son was found to be allergic.

I am very pleased to hear that Max is as good with children as he was with me when I was cleaning up around his tie out. I know he will find a good home, especially when you can vouch for him the way you do.

I hope your son does outgrow any allergies that he may have. It's not a pleasant way to live.

You take care now, and thanks for the love that you express in this post.

What in the world are you doing coming in the back door?  I don't know if I have ever seen you come in the back door.  I am usually with you.  How did you get to the store without me?  How did you get out of the house unnoticed?  What is going on here?????  Are we off our schedule?????    AAAAAAAAAaaaeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!??????

I protest.

  Whadja bring me?

Look I found a 19 squeaker toy for 75% off!

I too have had certain dogs saliva get my face and neck all blotchy. My buddies bullmastiff for some reason does it to me. Fortunately for me it didn't swell up, it just got red and irritated. Even though this happens I still can't resist getting down and playing with her since I just love her to death.
Sorry to hear that you couldn't keep SB Max. :) But your post about him is wonderful. :) You know Lexi, Rusty and Diesels sister is still available and she is so adorable. :D
