Signed.

The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated ... I hold that, the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man.

I certainly didn't expect it to happen this fast! Pit bulls will now be adoptable. Thank you everyone. :)

How great is this.........."Thank God."

Does this mean there is hope for
our country after all.

Now if we could get a handle on all the
BYB, the WHOOPS. the breeders out
to make a big buck and irresponsible owners
that have made a BAD NAME for so many breeds.

Wow that's amazing!
Val McC (directer) used to be one of our animal control officers.
She isn't a horrible person. The last time I talked to her she said her hands were often tied due to politics.
Being unable to make a decision without going thru several agencies limits her a lot.

I'm sooooo glad to see that Pits will have a chance now. :) :) :)

I signed the petition. I'm a children's foster care worker in Saginaw. The dogs, the children, most of them that live there are doomed and it is extremely sad. A very helpless feeling when you are up against so many cruel people. I'm jaded.

NEW POLICIES OF THE SAGINAW COUNTY ANIMAL CARE CENTER
by Friends to S.A.V.E. the Animal Shelter of Saginaw County on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 11:36am ·

That the former adoption room will now be the isolation room, and that any animals placed in that room will not receive any medical treatment and only receive palliative care.

That once the stray hold is up on the animals in the isolation room, they will be given 48 hours to either be removed by a rescue or adopted, if neither of those things happen then they will be euthanized.

That the animals in the adoption program will no longer receive medical care.

That those who assist with the adoption program will no longer be allowed to take pictures to document animals for their stray album.

That the volunteers will no longer be allowed in the building on the weekends and or holidays. That the only ones allowed in the building on weekends and holidays are the kennel aides.

That the kennel aides do not interact or socialize with the animals and also do not let them out for exercise.

That the small room previously known as the med room which also houses such things as washer, dryer and wash tub, will now become the adoption room and also house small stray animals.

These new policies were put in place by Val McCullogh, the director, personally. NOT by the Commissioners, not by any board, by HER. I'm sorry, but these are not the actions of a person who wants to help animals...I am so pissed and so are a lot of other people here.

The worst are not letting volunteers take pictures and not letting the dogs out of their cages for the entire weekend!! They are having another emergency meeting this Wed. at City Hall and I hope I can make it. If any of you would like to write the Saginaw Commissioners about this I have the contact info for all of them. MY MONEY PAYS FOR THIS HELL HOLE AND I AM SO MAD!!!

I am just sick with this, and also mad at myself because I can't bring myself to volunteer somewhere where I know the dogs I fall in love with will be killed... :(

It matters to the one you save.

Cuz we all know less exercise and less socialization helps make dogs more adoptable right? (sarcasm) She's a murderer plain and simple.

There is just something wrong with this picture. And the world. It's not about what is best for these animals, it's about being in control. Over the years, which have been many, I have had so much thrown at me over these dogs we save. A normal person would have thrown in the towel a long time ago. But it isn't about our feelings, it's about doing the right thing for the animals. It goes right back to the "Golden Rule" and it seems like everyone has forgotten to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. What a rotten shame.

Oh yes the Golden Rule......."to do unto others as you would
have them do unto you" and where or where has it gone?
So very very sad.

There was an elderly very thin man in the post office one
day who dropped his cane. Everyone just looked and
passed him by. Posted Image I said " Sir do you need some help getting
your cane"? He replied "Yes would you please, I usually
have a band around my wrist attached to the cane, but
I forgot it and I cannot bend over that far". So I helped
him he was so very grateful . :icon12: We talked and come to
find out he was going thru chemotherapy too.

People are just non caring a lot of the time, just don't
want to get involved. On the flip side of this you can
do something for somebody out of the kindness of
your heart, simply because you want to, it makes "you
feel good " AND YOU GET A BIG SLAP IN THE FACE.
How sad our world has gotten.

We need to "pray "for all the animals we know about
and don't know about. We need to "pray" for people
sick old whatever and children as well.

FOR ALL OF US WHO DO STILL CARE......DON'T
CHANGE.......................KEEP CARING AND LOVING. :icon12: :Rose:

Why do the INNOCENT have to pay the price?

Sarah... I read this a couple days ago. I didn't respond because I was trying to dig up some old information.
I still can't find it.
Before our group took over the Shelter we had a huge shake up with Animal Control. Fortunately we had support from the commissioners which helped us to eventually take over. Oddly enough, because of the horrible murder of healthy dogs (and our reaction to it) we were given rules very very similar to the ones you posted. VM was an animal control officer at this time.....
The dogs could not be walked... I was one of three volunteers allowed into the Shelter on weekends. This only because of a close friendship with a kennel tech who risked her job to allow us in. We could only be with the dogs in the adoption room.
I'm appalled by the new restrictions.
It's my opinion that a PUBLIC building/agency supported by tax payers should be open to the public, specifically volunteers. If it's not they have something to hide.
I've let our group know about the situation.
Whatever I can do to help I will. .

Thanks Annie. Joaquin and I are attending the meeting on Wed. I'll keep everyone updated on what happens. I have also heard the Dept. of Agriculture (I think) is investigating the shelter currently. I plan on asking about that Wed.

WOW!! There were about 100 people at the Courthouse tonight for this meeting. The public speaking took almost 2 hrs. It was really awesome to see so many people show up. :Applause: One person didn't show up- the Director, Val McCullough. The Commissioners voted to rescind the new policies that had been administered. The Dept. of Agriculture is investigating the shelter, and the sheriff spoke and said his office is investigating two different criminal complaints made against the shelter. There is definitely going to be more to come I'm sure, but it is looking up for the dogs. Here are a few links to MLive coverage of the story.

Yeah, we saw him too. :-) A lot of people spoke, they just happened to use his blurb. Both WNEM and ABC12 were at the meeting. There was so many people that over 50 people had to sit in the "overflow" room and listen on speakers. :-)
