This K-9 Wardog Cemetery is in our little town of South Lyon. Clare and I visit it every now and then and a group of war veterans maintain it beautifully :Star: . They do it all with their own equipment and time and help from dog loving volunteers. It is so fascinating and touching to read the headstones of the beloved dogs. Check out this article.

We give dogs the time we can spare, the space we can spare, and the love we can spare. And, in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.

I didn't realize we had a War Dog Memorial here in Michigan. THANKS for letting us know.
It broke my heart to read Sgt. Sparks had been poisoned by some evil person.

Love your picture (above)!
Wish I could be there for his headstone dedication!

Thank you so much for posting this, Karen! I also had no idea this War Dog Memorial was there. It's a reasonably short drive from where I live, and I don't know that I can be there this Saturday, but I do plan to visit someday soon. What a wonderful way to honor the dogs who have served and often given their lives in the military.

This place was soooo grown over with weeds and bushes that most people didn't even know it existed :Sigh: . The local veterans started asking for help with cleaning it up and clearing out the growth and people showed up with weed-wackers and saws and did a great job! There are hundreds of tombstones of both K9 war dogs, service dogs, and household companions from many years ago. Every month in the spring, fall and summer, they put a little piece in the South Lyon Herald requesting help and people get out there to maintain it's beauty and share stories. It's truly a treasure. A local man from Farmington petitioned to have March 9th officially be "K-9 War Dog Veteran's Day" and the governor made it official last month  .....that's why they chose this day to commemorate Sgt. Sparks. It was a sad way for such a dedicated dog to die....especially one that survived and was lucky enough to be brought back to the US and his family. As most of you know, many war dogs were left overseas when they were done with their duty. I would love to go, but will be out of town for Clare's dance competition. That pic above is of her and Brinks on one of our visits there last summer. It's located right at the corner of Milford Rd and 11 mile. I'm sure it will be a tear-jerker ceremony and well worth the trip for those that can go :doberman: .

It is at 11:00am on Sat. I will try to take a viedo to post so everyone can see, but not sure if I know how to do it.
We will see how my viedo goes after the ceremony. But if you know how to do a viedo that will help also. Just incase
I mess it up

I think SCD should send a wreath up to the memorial. I have people coming out Sat and I will not be able to be there. Any of you know of a flower shop near there where we could get one made up for the occasion?. I would cover the cost. Karen....any ideas?

how cool! I can't wait to see the video, but I'd really much rather be there! The wreath is a great way to let them know we care just as much as they do :Rose: . Thank you Arda.
