I promised Arda that I would always give annual updates on Heidi and her beloved Fozzie Bear.  I was searching the forum and cannot believe we have had the privilege of being owned by them for the past 8 and 7 yrs respectively.  Both of them are doing well and knock on wood overall very healthy.  Heidi did have a partial CCL tear earlier this year and we opted for laser therapy. She responded extremely well to the treatment ( pic of her going after the leftovers was post treatment) The pic. below with goggles is from a treatment session and Fozzie was along for the ride.  Heidi has finally really mellowed and new people can come into our home with little fuss.  She is most happy laying underfoot in the kitchen or that table in hopes of getting a treat.  Fozzie is still very active and loves his walks. He still has many puppy like qualities about him while Heidi is more of Grand Dam these days.

We wish you all peace and happiness at the holiday season and as always thank Arda, staff and volunteers for making dogs lives better everyday!

Judy, Brian, Heidi and Fozzie Bear

Here we are almost 1 year later and I am happy to report these two furballs are still doing well.  Fozzie has never really lost his puppy demeanor and is happy go lucky as ever.  Heidi, while overall very healthy, is really starting to show her age.  She has slowed down, lots of napping, long walks have become shorter and her fear aggression has subsided.  However, just when my heart saddens a little to see the changes in her, the FedEx man will come to the door and all bets are off! I never thought the day would come when I would be happy to see her go a little crazy.  Fozzie is probably taking the changes even harder than me.  While she still plays with him a little, it is certainly not at the level she use to and I don't think he understands it.  One funny story from this past year, our front yard faces the Detroit Zoo and we occasionally get visitors. This past summer a peacock decided to hang out in our yard. Fozzie was so freaked out, we could not get him to go out in the yard for 3 days! He just seemed to get over his fear when the peacock showed up again and it was another 3 days before he would go out.  By the way, the peacock had no fear of either of them.

Wishing you all the merriest of wishes and happiest of days at this time of year!

The Bells, Heidi and Fozzie Bear too!

Amazing what one peacock can do.  Poor Fozzie Bear.  He sure is beautiful.  So is she but who thought he would get that big.  Hugs to all.

Nice update on the furry ones!  I got a kick out of the peacock story.  Poor Fozzie probably has nightmares about it.   A long time ago, we had a peacock appear in our backyard.  Must have belonged to somebody in the neighborhood, but we never did find out who.  I'm just glad I saw him and helped him escape to safety before I let the dog out.  ;)

Thanks for giving such a great home to Heidi and Fozzie!

Another year has passed and Heidi and Fozzie are doing well. I cannot believe Heidi will 12 in February and Fozzie will be 10.  They have entered their senior years with style and grace and a few aches but overall are doing well.  Heidi still tries to counter surf but isn't quite as successful and Fozzie still just goes for the I am cute puppy look to try to get extra treats.

The big excitement this year and my worst fear is they got skunked this past summer!  I guess fortunately me, I was out of town and didn't have to deal with it  :LOL:Brian did a great job getting them cleaned up and deskunkified. The skunk didn't fare as well.  They managed to take the skunk out in the process.  I think our neighbors wanted to hold a parade in their honor as this skunk had been very active for several weeks, skunking several dogs on the block.

One other tibit from this year.  We had both Heidi and Fozzie's DNA tested.  Heidi is 50/50 Great Pyrenees and New Newfoundland (just as Arda told us :Tounge: ) and Fozzie is Great Pyrenees (which we knew because he was rescued with his mom) Chow, which we weren't surprised by because of his spotted tongue and coloring.  The big shocker was he is also part Akita!  I would have sworn on my life that he had golden retriever in him, but nope, just Great Pyr, Chow and Akita!

As always we give thanks to Arda and the entire staff for the love and compassion you bring every day to give all these animals a second chance.

Wishing the merriest of merry and the happiest of happy-

Judy, Brian, Heidi and Fozzie Bear

Pyr, Chow, and Akita.  LOL.  10 and 12 years.  That is to be applauded.  Glad they are still hanging in there.  Thanks you so much for giving them a great forever home.  And many more I pray.

Happy end of year!  I just wanted to provide an update on Fozzie Bear!  He is doing well but time is catching up with him even though he will always be my puppy! We will be celebrating his 13th birthday at the end of February(we adopted him from you when he was 12 weeks old), In his mind he is 3 yrs old and ready for a 3 mile walk! Unfortunately his hip dysplasia only comfortably allows for 3 blocks. What I can say is the vet has commended us many times over for the proactive and preventive care we have given him since he was puppy to stave off this becoming an issue as long as it has. He is on a good pain management regime, doesn't seem to uncomfortable, he can be unsteady on his feet at times...but if we say WALK, he is all over it!

He is at the stage now where his favorite activities are sleeping, eating, cuddles and short walks. We are more than happy to provide all of these unconditionally at any time :-)

After we lost Heidi, he was so lost, it was heart breaking.  We adopted another large older furball (Marty) and while it's not Heidi, I think he enjoys having another dog in the house.

As always Arda and gang, thank you, thank you, thank you for all that you do and give.

Happy Holidays!
