Brandy came to us in 1999. Another owner surrender of who knows what pedigree. Beautiful female, with a stunning set of show type cropped ears. Another of the "too young for me kids". She was placed in a home with Jean. It was a short few years that Jean had to return her to us because of a divorce. Brandy was showing signs of arteritis. Vets told us it was from some early injury. They gave us some options but they were totally out of the realm of possibilities. So we dealt with her problems on a day to day basis. Aspirin once in a while and sometimes Buty. What a great dog. If you entered my home you must pet the princess. All of you know her and that attitude. She is a "princess". Well a week ago she was running and chasing balls with Frodo and the rest of the lot. Sunday was a bit laid back. Monday ate super only. Tuesday ate part of each meal. Wednesday she ate very little. Thursday nothing. Friday three hot dogs cut up over the day. Saturday nothing. Sunday Kari fixed her ground beef and gravy and she ate a tad. Monday she was at the vets. CARDIO MYLYPATHY! She is on Lasix - 50 Mg bid and 15 Mg Enalapril - bid. By now we all know there is no cure. We can buy them a little time and that is all we can do. My problem is a little bit different and I want you to understand this principle. For two nights now, all the "A" team including Frodo have slept in a circle around her. Everything I do is being monitored by the pack. If and when we loose her we will more than likely loose a couple more within a short time. They are very somber and they go with her out and back. It's very sad. Will keep you all informed. A gentle prayer is requested.

The whole swamp is in my thoughts and prayers.

Dogs don't know about beginnings, and they don't speculate on matters that occurred before their time.
Dogs also don't know-or at least don't accept-the concept of death.
With no concept of beginnings or endings, dogs probably don't know that for people, having a dog as a life companion provides a streak of light between two eternities of darkness

The night was long. Brandy was out four times last night. I would expect that with the Lasix. But it will wear you out. Scarlett suffered her third seizure in the last 4 months. She is now 9 1/2 years old. I feel that it is more than just starting to have seizures. Because of her age I think it's more like Jane's Tango. The start of the end. I have had an appointment to have her groomed but I don't want to stress me. Stress can bring these on. Back to Brandy. She ate another Hebrew National through the night but she has lost so much weight. Satin balls in the making today. She actually grabbed up a trophy this morning. The stuffing out of a blanket and layed down with it in her mouth. My head is splitting from no sleep and the dust field in this house. I think I will save the pens for Jane tomorrow and try to do some restoration in the house. She is so thin. Please pray. I'm just not ready yet.

I am sooo sorry Arda; I know exactly what you're going through as I went through it with my 16 year old Chocolate Lab. He got so weak could not make it up the three den stairs. For a week I slept next to him on the floor. Had a REALLY hard time letting him go, but he finally let me know it was time by a look in his eyes. I am so sad for you right now.

So sad for you & Gang, losing so many dogs this year...
Maybe if Brandy can get stablized on the meds she will be ok
for awhile. Angel started that way & was ok for acouple monthes then
she had to go on the pimobenden & that gave her 7 monthes more...
Pat retired her from everything last fall & kept her home & quiet.
For Scarlet, maybe the meds that Kevin/Kathyes Juno is on may help
her for awhile..
Thinking of you all...
Daisy

Brandy ate 5 hamburg balls and a wafer cookie. She is acting better but those eyes. They say it all. I know she is feeling a little better but she has no weight to loose. Scarlett ate most of her breakfast but is sleeping a lot today. I feel like I'm sitting on a razor blade.

For those of you who don't know Brandy, she's the beautiful Dobe in the header graphic at the top of the forum. As Arda described her, she is nothing short of a Princess. Our thoughts are with you Arda.....

She wears a sting of purple beads for a collar, tied with Chinese silk ribbon. She demands the priviledges of a Princess and without knowing it, you heed to her commands. I just went after Pimobendan. Extremely hard to get here in the USA. I can go without something else. She needs the chance and I will see she gets it. I'm holding my fingers crossed and praying like I have something to offer. By the time I got back she had wet the floor which I expected. But she is carrying a fluff in her mouth like it's a treasure. Will try another hotdog.

Arda,
Good for Brandy, it takes a few days for them to get stable from
what I hear & read. Pat said the pimobenden was like a big turn around
for angel in a couple days. She started eating/ acting better & was wanting
to chase the squirels.. They are all different, but Ive heard of dogs getting
up to 2 + mores yrs, average about 3-6 mons. Good luck Brandy :)

Sam's Club had these 5 cans of cooked chicken pieces a few weeks ago. I thought it would be a cheap way to have Wendy's Manderin Chicken Salad at home so I picked up a stack. Well desided to try Brandy on them. She ate a half can of chicken pieces. Went back a few hours and ate the other half. This disease is so devastating. They are so active one minute and wham they are gone. There really isn't anything we can do but make them comfortable and pray. Anyone getting our breed should know about this. And if you are addicted like I am to the breed, you will go back and do it all over again. These dogs are extentions of ourselves. And so we wait and we pray. Pray for a little more time with our soul mate. That piece of us that makes us vulnerable. Our Dobermann.

Oh, Arda -

I just read your post about Brandy and Scarlett. I'm so sorry for you, for them, and the rest of the gang. I pray the Pimobendan buys Brandy some time. I know how gut-wrenching it is to watch them.

As for Scarlett, like Daisy said, maybe the new meds Kevin/Kathye have Juno on could help her, too.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers. PLEASE, PLEASE take care of yourself.

Oh Arda, my computor has been down all day and I just read the post. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully the meds will work and give them more time. Please take care of yourself, and if there is anything that you need just let me know.

She ate another half of a can of chicken and half of a peanut butter sandwich. This morning she is acting a lot different but she will be restricked. You know, I'd come down on everyone of you if you were doing what I am doing right now. I have never given these dogs hot dogs if it didn't have a pill in it. Frodo is defying me to the limit. Can't keep him off the furniture. Started crating him at night. Jean and Raven are not eating at this time. I understand Dobermann as a language. They want something done and they are all rebelling. It will all change if she gets better or if she dyes. But right now they are wearing me down.

Jane and Heather came out and she is looking a lot better but she tires so easily. Demanded her head pat from Jane. And she ate two more Peanut Butter sandwhiches and a couple of wafer cookies. Better but not good.

Brandy was looking a little weak today but that didn't stop her from demanding the royal treatment. After petting her head for what seemed like an hour Bubbles pushed his head in there and stole some pets. Well, I knew Brandy was feeling better because she cared enough to "protest". You don't just stop petting the head of a queen. You must ask permission. Pardon me, your highness, I do forget myself sometimes!

:)

She still looks fabulous in her purple necklace. She had to beat the males off with a stick when she went out the door. She's still got it. :)

Peanut, you barked at your Dad??

It's me, Peanut, don't you recognize me?

What in the world are you doing coming in the back door?  I don't know if I have ever seen you come in the back door.  I am usually with you.  How did you get to the store without me?  How did you get out of the house unnoticed?  What is going on here?????  Are we off our schedule?????    AAAAAAAAAaaaeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!??????

*oof*

I protest.
