Girl, 2, Mauled To Death By Family Dogs
Huskies Taken To Local Shelter

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A 2-year-old girl was pronounced dead at a local hospital on Friday after being attacked by her family's dogs.

The child's mother went to check on the girl in her bedroom on Friday morning when she discovered the 2-year-old was not there.

The girl was found injured in the back yard of the home in the 2000 block of Oakdale in Waterford Township.

Police said she suffered bite wounds from the family's two huskies.

The girl was rushed to a hospital, where she died from her injuries, the station reported.

"When a 2-year-old child is mauled … by two animals, it's a very serious day in our community," said Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson.

Oakland County animal control officers were called to the scene and the dogs have been placed in a shelter, where they are being tested for rabies. The dogs are expected to be euthanized, the station reported.

Pat Pursley, a neighbor, told Local 4 she was not surprised to hear of the attack. Pursley said the one of the dogs came after her two years ago.

"The dog leaped over the fence and came at me … (but) I got in the house in time," she said.

The girl's mother and grandparents, who live at the home, were questioned by Waterford police and released.

Police are still working to determine how the girl got out of the home, which appeared to be secured. Investigators are reviewing the possibility that she may have escaped out of a dog door, the station reported.

This story is so sad and upsetting to me. I know the story doesn't get into it but if they were racing Huskys then it's very possible that they are pretty wild dogs. Some of the owners that raise and train these types of Husky's train them in such a way that many of us would find very disturbing. I met a guy up north who races them pretty seriously and after a few hours of talking I found myself listening in total amazement about the differences we have in diet, training and all other aspects of raising.

Anyway, I would like to say how sorry I am to hear about this. But if they were being raised like wild dogs and the owner didn't take the proper cautions then shame on them because they are more responsible for that little girls death then the dogs, in my opinion. From the article it sounds like they have been out of their yard before and displayed aggressive behavior in the past.
