Below, please find a link to a you tube video of a dog bloating. I have heard so much about this, but seeing the symptoms in a real dog will make it much easier to recognize, should I ever be unfortunate enough to witness.

Sorry, it seems I put this in the wrong category. Should have put in health and education. I have no idea how to move, but please feel free to do so.

Thank you for posting this Michelle. Dobes are prone to bloat and recognizing the early symptoms can save your dog's life.

Thank you Michelle! I'm so scared of bloat. I have several friends who lost their dogs to it.

Thanks for posting this, very hard to watch and I have seen it before, but always worry about it, so it is good to know what to look for.

You are so right, time is CRITICAL. Bloat is pretty obvious and it does not
only happen to large breeds, although does happen with deep chested dogs,
small dogs can bloat as well. One thing people do with small dogs is to
have the dog do tricks after eating such as rolling over and over, this
should not be done. Also a dog can bloat by drinking water way too FAST.

German Shepherds have a tendency to bloat, a friend of mine has a
shepherd and the only thing that saved him was FAST FAST FAST
RUSH TO ER. He is still alive and doing well, thanks to their knowledge
and fast trip to ER.

I am glad several people have found this video helpful. I had read all about bloat, but a visual always is much more memorable for me. Just to clarify, no one knew the dog was bloating as the video was recorded. The narrator explains that the dog had just been adopted from rescue, and the video was being made to document the new dog's first day at home. No one involved had ever seen bloat before, therefore it was not recognized as a medical emergency. I am sure they just thought the dog was restless, and had not settled into his new home yet. As the dog's distress became more evident, they did rush him in for emergency care. It was coincidental that the bloating episode was documented in a video. The new owners were gracious enough to share the video in the hope that other dog owners would benefit, and recognize the symptoms of bloat more quickly. That is why the narrator stresses in the video how critical it is to seek treatment immediately, and explains why that didn't happen in this case.

I do agree Michelle, for people who do not know the symptoms, the
video is excellent and thank you for sharing. Bloat is one thing
that scares the living daylights out of me. It is so painful for the
poor dog. Gee whiz what a first day at home. Poor people and
poor dog.

It certainly was a horrible first day for the dog and his new family. At least the dog survived, and a great educational video was shared.
