He has been a little manhandled. If we touch his collar he wets all the way to the door. Cute as ever. He is putting weight on the leg and the surgery was on the 19th. So I think he's doing great.

If this holiday would just get over, I know we will survive. It's been too long and too much going on. Can't stand the traffic and all the crowds. Siding blew off the end of the kennel in the wind a few days ago. I can't hardly walk. You know......Xmas bah hum bug.

Nickie went out into the snow to potty. He wanted to have fun in it. Next week, next week.

Poor Tipper. I take coumadin every day - does the same thing as rat poison. Thins the blood. I have a PT INR meter at home but no Vit K. Wish I could help :Sigh:

when we get rat poisened dogs in the clinic,,we make them vomit.. and then pump them with activated charcoal to soak up what didnt come out with the vomit. Fluids to flush and yes clotting factors to see how they are doing. Vit. K helps the liver make a protein that helps in clotting. i can see what i can find out as far as ordering some for you... but it wont be until next week.... i hope he is ok... its really scarey and so many people dont realize how serious it is.

I have to tell you, Sharen, that 20 to 30 years ago I had a dog eat Castor Beans. A whole hand full of them. I will never forget that as long as I live. I used to plant them outside of the fence to keep moles out. He bleed out and the only way we could save him was with blood donors. It burned out his whole digestive system from the gums to his rectum. I will never forget that mess. Nor do I ever want to go through it again. I knew I was in trouble when I opened the door and he met me. That kennel was a total disaster.

Had a very long discussion with my vet about
this today. He does have some, but it can
be very hard to get too. I am sure he will
not give up all he has, let me know if you will
need some.

And by the way my sweet girl had a good appt.

I'm confused. Can anyone answer this question? Is the Vitamin K1 that is needed as an antidote to a rat poison ingestion some kind of special or different formulation? Just wondering because I am seeing Vitamin K1 available all over the place online, for what seems like a reasonable price.

Still hoping and praying for this guy's recovery. I know it will be a while before you will know if he's out of the woods. He's got a lot of people rooting for him!

I'm also wondering what kind of nasty side effects he could be suffering from the OD of Tylan?

I should know more about everything tomorrow. He is coming home tomorrow morning with his drugs and instructions. The only thing we could get from where we were was the human grade Vit K1. A lot of the stuff on line took a VET to decipher. We'll see.

coumadin and warfarin the drugs used to kill rats thins the blood to the point that you start bleeding and the blood can no longer clot to stop it. they are listed as one of the most dangerest drugs available. you need the vitamin k to bring the blood back into clotting range. as strange as it seems the foods with high vitamin k can help to bring the blood back to normal (with vit K1). because it stays in you for a while it can take weeks to know if you are in normal clotting time. one of the times mine went too thin i was in the hospital for a month. vit K1 injections and lots of high vitamin K food. its a horrible drug glad the puppy is on the way home

Arda - I forgot to ask - do they draw blood and then run the PT INR ? I have a meter to use and could probadly loan it out to you if the values are the same. I think they use a human meter for dogs with sugar issues so I don't know why my coumadin meter would not work. Call me or Jackie can call me.

He is home. Has to have 9 pills 2 X daily. I have to watch for anything like bleeding for the next 3 weeks. No playing with the other dogs or getting bumped or knocked in the head by me. He is on bed rest. Animal grade Vit K1. Much cheaper.
