I am so so sorry to hear about Doodgee. You were so great to take him on and give him an awesome life after he had been through so much. I remember when we first started to go out to SCD. Doodgee was always the first to greet us and we so looked forward to seeing him each Saturday. We were truly Blessed to have known him.
Take Care,
Kevin, Kathye, Chris and all our furkids

When my husband and I went to SCD for the first time, Doodgee was the first to run and greet us. I remember reading about him on Petfinders; the trials and tribulations he had previously experienced in his life. I was absolutely amazed at the resilience this boy had. In spite of all he'd been through, there he was, tail wagging, happy to be alive and loving all who came to visit.
My thoughts and prayers are with you both. Doodgee was one of a kind. The time he had with you was the best of times for him. The love you gave him, rest assured, erased all the pain he had gone through before. I hope you find solace in the knowledge that although he was with you for only a short period of time, it was the pinnacle in his life.
Run free, Doodgee.
Linda
The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated ... I hold that, the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man.

For those who love an older dog
***************************
One by one they pass my cage,
Too old, too worn, too broken, no way.
Way past his prime he can't run and play,
Then they shake their heads slowly and go on their way.
A little old man, arthritic and sore,
It seems I am not wanted anymore.
I once had a home, I once had a bed,
A place that was warm, and where I was fed.
Now my muzzle is grey, and my eyes slowly fail,
Who wants a dog so old and so frail?
My family decided I didn't belong,
I got in their way, my attitude was wrong.
Whatever excuse they made in their head
Can't justify how they left me for dead.
Now I sit in this cage, where day after day,
The younger dogs get adopted away.
When I had almost come to the end of my rope,
You saw my face and I finally had hope.
You saw thru the grey, and the legs bent with age,
And felt I still had life beyond the cage.
You took me home, gave me food and a bed,
And shared your own pillow with my poor tired head.
We snuggle and play, and you talk to me low,
You love me so dearly and want me to know.
I may have lived most of my life with another,
But you outshine them with a love so much stronger.
I promise to return all the love I can give,
To You, my dear person, as long as I live.
I may be with you for a week or for years,
We will share many smiles, you will no doubt shed tears.
And when the time comes that God deems I must leave,
I know you will cry and your heart will grieve.
And when I arrive at the Bridge, all brand new,
My thoughts and my heart will still be with you.
And I will brag to all who will hear,
Of the person who made my last days so dear.

I tell you, they will be there long before any of us.

Dogs don't know about beginnings, and they don't speculate on matters that occurred before their time.
Dogs also don't know-or at least don't accept-the concept of death.
With no concept of beginnings or endings, dogs probably don't know that for people, having a dog as a life companion provides a streak of light between two eternities of darkness

Cathy, what showed loud and clear in that beautiful tribute to Doodgee is how happy he was, what a great life he had with you, and how much he was loved. I am so sorry for your pain still. Mary
Mary said it perfectly. It made me cry.

What in the world are you doing coming in the back door? I don't know if I have ever seen you come in the back door. I am usually with you. How did you get to the store without me? How did you get out of the house unnoticed? What is going on here????? Are we off our schedule????? AAAAAAAAAaaaeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!??????
