Hi All

I know this is a Doberman site, but I am concerned about my 11 yr old Schaudeh.
She goes to the vet tomorrow, she is so irritated back there she either has made
herself raw and looks like she has some blood, I pray it is not some sort of
tumor. She has recently had a check up everything was fine and no parasites.
She is pure white like snow so it really shows up. Has anyone ever experienced
anything like this?

She is going potty fine, no blood everything else seems fine. I was thinking
maybe it is her glands.

If there is no blood in her stool, I would lean towards an anal gland problem. Although I've never had a dog with anal gland problems, so I don't know what the symptoms are. Could she have gotten a superficial scratch in that area, and it is now raw from licking it?

Our fingers and paws are crossed for Schaudeh. Let us know what you find out at the Vet's tomorrow.

Thank you. I have checked all over on her, she has long hair so I even cut hair around the
area, she has very long hair on her tail, etc. She lets you do anything. She looks at
me like ok now what? I didn't see any marks or anything.

I will let you know what he says tomorrow, Thank you again

I know this must have you terribly worried. Please let us know how the vet visit turns out. Hoping it will be something minor and easy to treat.

Princess had a anal gland problem. She had to have them extracted every two or three months. She would scoot along the floor or be licking and I would know it was time to get it extracted again. this was for the last three or four years of her life. It wasn't anything bad it was just that the gland got pluged and had to be opened.

I am hoping that's what it is, but she doesn't scoot along the floor. She looks just
terrible back there. Thank you for your input.

I have to agree with Ella sounds like an anal gland problem.
I had 2 shelties that had problems with there anal glands. My females use to leak (very smelly) and she would be raw back there, it was hard to keep her clean, I had both hers removed at 11 years of age. My male sheltie only occassionally had to have his one anal gland relieved and he would get raw also. This didn't start happending until they were 11 years old.
Good luck

Just returned from the vet. Her anal glands were not only pack, but very
infected. He did release the glands, he likes to put medication right
into the glands but she was so sore he told me he would not do it she
couldn't tolerate it. So she is on heavy duty medication if that does
not work she has to go back next week and be sedated, so he can
put medication into the glands. She was such a good girl. I
was so worried. She is happy to be home and she is exhausted.

There were 2 little kids in the waiting room and she tried so hard to
get from me to go to them so she could give them a BIG KISS, she
adores children.

Everybody asks me where did I get her name. I named her after the
singer Sade but spelled in different.

Thanks again

Glad to hear that the problem has been diagnosed and is being treated. I'm not saying this is exactly minor, it does sound like a pretty bad infection (and very uncomfortable for Schaudeh), but at least it is something that should respond to treatment. Makes you wonder what good those darn anal glands are, anyway. I understand all about the scent secretion, etc., but they sure do seem prone to causing trouble for a lot of dogs.

I was curious about her name. Makes perfect sense now!! I'm so pleased to hear she's doing much better. Poor baby, I know she had to have been miserable. Any time I give Betty her meds, she expects a biscuit. . . it's become a routine around here! LOL
Glad that the meds seem to be working. Has to be a big relief for both of you.

That's the same way it is around here, must be a Dobe thing. :He He: But in our house, if one dog gets a biscuit, everybody gets one. We were really going through the biscuits, because Darcy gets her thyroid pill twice a day. We found that a couple of kibbles works just as well, and is sooo much cheaper. Now they only get a biscuit on special occasions.

I'm glad to hear that Schaudeh is doing much better. :sorcerer:
