I swear - choosing dog food gets harder every time. And everyone has an opinion. It gets worse the more you read ... you want to do what's best for your dog but that isn't always clear. As for "best food out there" it depends on who you talk to. It is more expensive than some, and it's less expensive than others. Price isn't always indicative of quality.
My vet Dr. Egan recommends Eagle Pack as one of the top choices.
Cocoa is on Eagle Pack and she's beautiful. If you go to the playdate in the US you'll see her. The Shilohs are on it and you HAVE to see them.
It comes down to what works for you and for your dogs.
The nice thing is ... if it doesn't work - there's about a gazillion other brands you can try.

I just wanted to make a decision that would be just what you said "Best for the dogs" and in everything I've read and heard from different users and non-users I made the choice that I felt was right.
Like you said this is a topic everyone has an opinion on and you just have to find out what works for your dogs.
Thanks for your input!!

I feed Cocoa the Eagle Pack Holistic Select Anchovy, Sardine & Salmon MealDoes anyone else out there use this particular dogfood?
w/Oatmeal. I mix approx 1 1/4 cups with about 2 tablespoons of the canned Canidae (Chicken, Lamb & Fish) and some hot water once a day and then I leave dry kibble out so that she can nibble when she wants. Last summer, she started having problems with her coat and it was determined that she has an underactive thyroid and is also allergic to barley, corn, and soybean (amongst other things). She is doing fantastic on the Eagle Pack along with her daily dose of thyroxin. She also gets two, 3V Caps (a supplemental source of omega-3 fatty acids plus vitamins A, D and E) a day.

The embedded collars in his neck when we got him and he goes back and extends the gentle paw to the human race. One heck of a dog.

I believe that the place I'm buying my dog food, that is the only one they carry in the Holistic ( fish & Oatmeal) foods. I'm going to try this one first and see if it will make a difference, if not I'll try the Holistic food. I fed them for the first time last night and I'm doing a gradual transition, Is this necessary?
I've always done this when switching from one food to another.

It's a good idea just so you don't end up with any upset tummies.
Cheryl noted a couple pages back that when you switch between premium foods you have less trouble.
I usually take about 3-4 days to switch but I haven't ever had any problems. I have switched them "cold turkey" and they've been fine but for the most part I'd rather be safe than sorry. (They get homecooked and raw as well as kibble - so they're used to some variety in their diet.)

I switched from the Dick Van Patten over to the Eagle Pack cold turkey without problems but that's not to say that you won't! I suppose it's better to be safe than sorry.I fed them for the first time last night and I'm doing a gradual transition, Is this necessary?
