I'm sure some of you from the board were there, but since I've never met most of you in person, I wouldn't have recognized you. In case any of you remember a woman in a green winter coat looking like she was freezing, that was me!
I don't know what I was expecting, but this was really special. Even though all I had was an intersection to look for, there was no missing it as there appeared to be about a hundred cars parked along the road. My best guesstimate is there were a couple hundred people attending, and several dozen dogs. Unfortunately, not a single Doberman that I saw. I sure wish I had brought one of mine.
There were several different speakers honoring military dogs, police K-9s, SAR dogs, basically all working dogs and the sacrifices they make, then the dedication of the headstone for Sergeant Sparks. The whole thing was very solemn and moving. I am so glad I went!
Arda, your wreath was in a place of honor right near the front of the monument. I took pictures, but I haven't had a chance to look them over and see how they came out. My photography skills are pretty bad. Hopefully, some of the other board members who were there got some good photos and will post them.
Here is the web site address for the Michigan War Dog Memorial: mwdm.org (Sorry, I can't get it to post as a link.)
