Hello!!!

Long time no post.... I am Tux's mom - I adopted him back in 2005 for those of you I don't know. :) We're looking forward to celebrating a double-digit birthday this August!!

I took him to the holistic vet on Monday because I wanted more answers and possibly to look into acupuncture. As a background he's been having a tough time getting around - he's stiff and sometimes cries when he's trying to get up after a nap or in the morning. My local vet had already recommended gabapentin last fall. We did a spinal set of x-rays and hips. There is a small amount of arthritis in his hips, but the main issues were four badly fused vertebrae (C7 in cervical, two in thoracic and one just above the tail) along with muscle atrophy in both his chest and through his hindquarters.

She added the chinese herb "Body Sore" and more glucosamine and condroitin, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this and treatment. She also said he's not allowed to run with me anymore :( but we can walk lots still. She did recommend acupuncture and laser along with swimming/water treadmill.

I'm hoping that someone here has had some experience - I'm reading everything I can but personal experience is always helpful.

Thank you so much!!
Stef

GLYCO FLEX II.  It is different from glucosamine and condroitin.  I don't know what or why but I get more good results from it.  I also use meloxicam.  Found much better results from it.  I have no experience with laser but I'd go for it if nothing else worked.  My Chaos has had joint problems for a couple of years and he seems to be doing good on this mix.  He's only 4 years old.  But way oversized.

Thank you!!! We got the Glycoflex on Monday. I was supplementing G&C with a human brand before, but the vet recommended that as well. I'm going to add fish oil as well as the vet indicated that would also be helpful for it's anti-inflammatory properties.

Miss you Arda!!!! *hugs*
