We need some up front and straight forward information on Cushings Disease. When the dog gets the extended gut, what are we looking at. The meds seem to be astronomical. We need to know what you have been through with this disease.

Here's a good article on canine Cushing's Disease:

Hey Arda
Dakota is borderline cushings. I've talked with my vet a lot about treating or not treating if she goes Cushionoid. She has told me that the meds can be worst than the actual disease. Sorry I cant help much with what you need. I'll talk to one of the other vets in the morning. I was told to us the lowest fat content that I could easier to digest for her. I'm switching her to Purina Veterinary Diet OM.

What we are running into is that the meds are absolutely TOO expensive for a normal working fool to afford. This sounds like about $100 a month for the meds. We all love our pets BUT we all have to eat also. Any practical information is greatly appreciated.

Which meds are you looking at? Depending on the drug, you may be able to get it from a compounding pharmacy for much less than you would pay at the vet. Also try the pharmacies at Costco or Sams Club. You do not need to be a member to use the pharmacy.

I use a pharmacy in Texas called BCP. They will take the script from your vet, and put the meds in a beef/chicken flavored cube, at a reasonable price (at least for the meds I order).

BCP VETERINARY PHRAMACY

It might be worth a phone call.

Cocoa was diagnosed with Cushing's today. I don't know much about this disease. I have an appointment with the vet on Friday. Meds are about hundred bucks a month. Can't hurt to check out Sam's Club or the place Linda Stevens has recommended.
The embedded collars in his neck when we got him and he goes back and extends the gentle paw to the human race. One heck of a dog.

CAB, please keep us updated on her.  I know nothing about this disease.  But I really care about Cocoa.  We all have the need to know.  Fingers are crossed for her.
