Sky is about 6-1/2 now and graying a little bit but not slowing down. She's been with us 5 years this November. We visit grammas in TN twice a year and last year, it was her first visit to Grandfather Mountain in NC. Here she is on the way to grammas in July. That big kid she's sleeping on is the same little guy in our adoption photo.

She was SuperGirl for Halloween this year and helped pass out candy while wearing her red cape.

Last summer she broke her toe but it has healed nicely. We think she whacked it on the steps of the deck when she was running up them. She gets fall alergies and the hair falls off her toes so she has to get a steroid shot and take pills for a couple of weeks. She plays hide and seek (and usually wins), the kids try to race her from the back of the yard to the house (and she usually wins) but she won't fetch even if her life depended on it. I saw a sign one time that said Dobermans can recognize 50 human words but ignore every one of them which defines her when she's being stubborn.
She's been showing some behavior changes the last couple of weeks - i.e. more nervous, more clingy than usual, eating the catfood, leaving a little turd on her bed (which she's never done) so we're trying to figure that one out since there haven't been any lifestyle changes.
She's still a dedicated daddy's girl and his mole hunting buddy though lately when she gets one, she isn't in a sharing mood.
I hope this post finds everyone well, fat and happy and I'll try to do better at giving updates.

You might want to take her to the vet for her behavior changes, that usually means there is something wrong. Most dogs hide symptoms of illness, it is programmed into them to do so....survival of the fittest.

Every couple of years my internal clock to post an update goes off! Sky is now about 8-1/2 but she'll always be a puppy. Here she is with the little guy in the adoption picture from way back in 2007. Both seniors now.
It seems like it was just yesterday that we picked her out of a whole bunch of other dobies (I think we counted 28)..... but Arda's last words to us still ring in my ears. She said "she'll be the best dog you ever had". Those words were true. She melded right in to her spot in the family. She's still quite the daddy's girl and has an affinity for rolling in the grass so we call her dirt muffin. She is going to be a shiny blue shark for halloween this year and help pass out candy again.
I always laugh to myself when I think about the time we came back to one of the reunions. She was not a happy camper and refused to play, growled a lot and stuck to us like glue. We picked up a couple of fundraiser items, one of which was a nice grey sweatshirt with the SCD logo on the back and front. I can't tell you how many dobie lovers that have approached us whenever my hubby wore that sweatshirt. Some have even become friends.
We did have a benign growth removed from her chest over a year ago and it hasn't grown back - which is good news. She is still as clumsy as ever and doesn't seem to have a first gear. Broke the skin on her knee wiping out on the deck - needed a couple of staples. Quite the tough little cookie she is.
I hope this note finds everyone well and look forward to providing my next update!

Oh thank you. We need to know that they are loved and still alive. It makes what we do feel worth while. I have to worry about all of those we never hear from again. I'm so glad she won that special place in your heart and family. Big hug for Sky. Many more years I pray.

She sure is beautiful! The picture of her and your son is so nice. We love getting updates on the dogs, and we would love to see her dressed up like that shark!
