Nixx ( Nikki) seems to be loosing hair around her chest area and around the neck, which I think is from the collar, but, not sure about the chest area. It all seemed to start with some bug bites awhile ago. She has no itching or licking with it. I am also wondering if all the running and dashing around the yard, that the dirt, sand, rocks, etc. are hitting on her and causing this, any idea's or anyone else have this problem? There is also the area on the inner back legs, which they don't have much hair to begin with. The skin is not red or sore looking.

Both mine (a red and a blue) have very little hair on inner back legs. My blue has thinning hair around neck and chest; thought it was because he's a blue and his collar. For a blue, he doesn't seem to have skin problems, only thin fur if I don't keep him on thyroid medicine.

That was one of the signs in my Emmy when we found out she needed thyroid meds was the thinning hair. I would get her tested just to make sure......

Does the collar have a metal clasp/buckle? That's what caused it with Kenny.

Yes it does. The hair loss around the neck, I do know is from the collar, but, it is the chest area, that I was most concerned with. There are also small pimple like bumps also.

Have her tested for hypothyroidism. Cocoa had hair loss around her neck and major skin issues, including the pimple like bumps, all of which were fixed with thyroid meds.

Nixx is doing much better. The vet feels it is a bacterial infection, not thyroid problems, so started some meds, and already looks better. I am still going to test for thyroid in time.Being she is young too, the vet just didn't think it was thyroid causing these pimples and flaky spots on her chest. I will keep you posted.

It can occur at a young age. Cocoa was only 9 months when she was diagnosed.
