Today the Heeres family came out with their 18mth old doberboy, Bo, to meet our little Juliette. This girl is so young and so sweet, who could resist? Well not the Heeres! Bo put his stamp of approval on her and she is now a member of the family. Congratulations! Two is always more fun than one. biggrin.gif Thank you opening your hearts and home to Juliette.

So, Lulu about half the mornings out of the week is waking up about 5 or 6 AM to puke... I wake up to her heaving, and sometimes able to get her out, but she's only puking up clear/yellowish fluid, no food, no anything else. She's in her crate without treat/toys, etc... She's eating ok & pooping ok... Any ideas?

And... some pics!!!

She may just be waking up with a empty tummy and puking up bile . Does she get a small treat before bedtime? If not, try that and it might help the empty tummy feeling in the early morning.

Lulu is so beautiful! Thanks for the updated pictures.

I agree with Diana, if all else seems well it may just be her tummy is too empty in the morning.

I have heard the same thing about empty tummies upsetting some dogs, and then they throw up bile. I think it was Karen who said she gives her dog a piece of bread before bed and it helps. I LOVE these pictures. The second one is so beautiful. It's crazy to think that Lulu was less than 24 hrs from "running out of time." Thank you for giving her such a great home. flower.gif

That second picture does just say, "I am the picture of innocence, I would never ever counter surf, I would never eat your socks or chew up your shoes, I would never hassle your cat, worship me forever." I simply love that picture! The first picture reminds me of my dogs when they are guarding my house from the lion and tigers and bears (we can never see what ever they are standing there barking at).

What nice pictures of Lulu! wub.gif

I have to agree with everyone else that she is having empty stomach barfs in the morning.

She's beautiful--love the pink collar. It goes so nice with her coloring. wub.gif Mikaela also urped in the morning. Giving her a large biscuit right before bed has pretty much solved the problem.

She's a beauty. So glad Lulu is enjoying her new home. You can tell she is right at home! LOL. Thank you for making her part of your family . . . and Arda for saving her life. Keep the photos coming! Hopefully a treat a night will cure her morning tummy upset.

Thanks for the insight into her puking! Much better since making their dinner an hour later AND a biscuit before bedtime! Lulu has COMPLETELY settled in, her and Bo are getting along fantastically.... On weekdays I have to get up and leave for work too early, so Erik is the one to get them up and outside and feed them.... but on weekends, I'm the one who gets to uncrate Lulu and let them out, then we all go back into the bedroom after an hour and wake Erik up... Lulu is already used to that routine! She loves being in bed!!!

The only thing she hasn't gotten the hang of yet is asking to go outside... not sure how to teach her that. We've got bells on the door that they can ring, but she hasn't figured it out yet after 6 weeks of us demonstrating. She is still having accidents in the house (pee and poop). We've tried positive rewards for when she goes potty outside and us demonstrating the bell ringing every time before they go out the door. Any other ideas????

I'm glad the later dinner hour, and a snack before bed, has fixed the puking problem. As far as the 'asking' to go out, some just don't. Dude never asks, I think he would hold it until he exploded. He gets a certain 'look' in his eye that lets you know. Liddy doesn't ask either, she has a way of pacing that lets us know. I think if you watch Lulu, she will show you a signal that says she needs to go out. Until then, just be sure you are letting her out frequently enough. Good Luck.

Glad the snack before bed has helped with the vomiting issue, that is good news. I agree, some never give good clues on when they have to go out, but sooner of later, they give something, maybe even eye contact that tells you, they need to go out.
Nixx starts to pace and circle around the table and when you say "gotta go out" she speeds up very fast, so out we go.
Keep working with the bell and she may figure it out yet.

I agree with the advice of learning her signs to go out. When we got Josie we didn't think she asked to go out either, but we had never had a dog that would pace that meant they needed to go out. Josie doesn't go to the door, or whine, but will just start pacing room to room. Once we figured out her signal, she has never had an accident.

I agree with finding her signal. Bailey never barks. She will stand in front of you and stare at you. Then if you say "Do you want to go outside?" She will spin around and run to the door. Bud will go sit at the door, but not bark. Sometimes I won't notice at first and wonder where he is. Poor guy will just sit there and wait for me. blush.gif

Here's the story of what brought me to this site...

My husband got me a doberman pup Dec. 22, 2008. She was my baby, spoiled and very loyal. She followed me everywhere and I loved her very much. In August of 2009, my husband was laid off from his job. We only had one income and things were very rough for a while. We made a very hard decision, we decided to find a new home for my baby. (her name was gretchen.) We found a nice family, a man who worked with my husband and his family. They had a couple of children, a big yard and the income to take care of her. For two months, I visited her once a week. The woman who had Gretchen asked me to stop coming by as often, because Gretchen whined for a long time after I left. I started going about once a month, and emailing her regularly. I called her in December and the number had been disconnected. Apparently they had moved, and she didn't bother to let us know. I have been emailing her ever since and she has not answered. For some reason, I have been thinking of her a lot lately. I had a dream about her last night. I decided to try one more time to email her, and there was no answer. I went to the petfinder website and looked for her, I had a bad feeling. I found a dobe girl that looked a lot like her, but I contacted Gulf Coast doberman rescue and they said it wasn't her, that she had been sent to Michigan and was adopted. I searched Michigan area Dobe rescues and found this site. The picture at the top of this page is of my Gretchen. I know this because when I contacted her previous owner with the subject "please let me know where my dog is" she finally told me that she stopped giving Gretchen her heartworm medication and she became heartworm positive, so she took her to the animal shelter. She said that she left her there under the name Juliet, her kids had renamed her. I just want to say I am so happy that she has found a safe place and I no longer have to worry about her. Thank you so much for taking such good care of her. God bless

Kayla

I'm including some pictures of Gretchen from when we were together, I hope you don't mind.

Wow. How blessed you are to have found out her final destination innocent.gif . Especially since she traveled so far to find it! She was a very lucky girl you know.....she was on her last day, if not hours when we got word of her and accepted her into our program. She was lucky to be loved by you....someone who cared enough to find her and make sure she was ok icon12.gif

I didn't know that, I really wish the woman had just told me that she wanted to give her away. I would have taken her back in a heart beat. I'm sure she is where she was meant to be though. I really believe that. I'm happy to see that she is finally keeping on her weight also. That was a problem when she was younger. The vet said she would grow out of it and it looks like she definitely has smile.gif She looks so grown up! I really appreciate what you all do. Thanks to everyone who had a hand in helping to get her where she is. I miss her so much, but this is almost as good as seeing her in person. My kids were so happy to see her pictures yesterday! lol They immediately knew her goofy little face.

What a story! So cruel that this woman didn't let you know that she couldn't take care of your dog when you so obviously still loved her. I'm so glad you know where she in and that she is cared for. How many dogs are saved "at the last minute," and how many are not. As Sophia snuggles next to me sleeping and Lily sleeps on the bed on the floor, I can know there are another two dogs in the world that enough people cared about to keep from death. And Lulu/Gretchen has such a beautiful face full of character -- she deserves as wonderful a life as she can possibly have. Love all the pictures. tongue.gif
